What happened last night was a product of Chris' rage. I've been doin some thinking and that's what i've come up with. He was pissed off that people are ripping him a new one over this 'walk the line' scandal and that his ratings are dropping so much in the polls. Because he was so mad, he came out and sang this song with ANGER. People were afraid when they watched it. Do you really want someone with such a short fuse as your american idol? I sure as hell don't!

Chris is soo amazing! I was so mad last night tho about what Simon said about going too far with the rock, but like seriously he better not go and sing all boring songs like the other contestants. PLEASE DONT DO THAT CHRIS!! U are fantastic doing rock! Chris is the only reason why I watch American Idol! Don't listen to Simon...U ROCK!!!! Michelle<33

Chris: Don't listen to Simon... he is a very confused man. Please do not sell out and start singing teeny boppy songs. Kepp rocking on and stay real. One week Simon tells you that you are the only one that has not sold out and then last night he tells you that you need to sing something else. Stay true to your self. You have my vote!

Every week, you keep it real and stay true to yourself and your music. It's all we can ask of a true 'artist.' I am blown away by your performance every week, and I think you keep getting better. Simon was out of line Tuesday, and I'd love to see that his comments angered so many folks who support you that we all made sure to vote TWICE as many times! LOL

Unfortunatly, although I think Creed was a good choice, the song it self was a little heavy for those who don't like the Hard Stuff. That been said consider Nockelback's Photgraph, Someday or Hero. Also perfect music for you 3 doors Down, you would kill!!!!!!!!!!Not that you are not killing now!

You were "meant" to sing "Arms wide Open" by Creed, or even "Grace Like Rain" by Todd Agnew! You would rock the world! Please consider, we are all praying you take this ride God has blessed you with to His Glory!

I called all my friends who don't even watch the show because I was afraid it would scare people off. I love him but he needs to tone it down just a tad and be his cuter rocker self. He looked like he could have stabbed you in the eye last night...anger driven I think.

OK...I've absolutely loved him since auditions, first off. But he crossed the line last night. I'm a Creed fan, but Chris was a little scary even to me. I'm afraid he turned some people off. I think he needs to have a little wind taken out of his sails.

Funny how I thought he may have scared away some mainstream viewers last night by singing something harder. But since I love the music Chris has been singing- I'm a big hard rock fan- to me it was a proud, in your face performance and it kicked butt!

I think Chris was awesome last night. I love hard rock. I think he's the best talent on the show. But the AI contracts are know to be super restrictive. AI wants someone they can mold into who and what they want. Simon completely contradicted what he said last week! Last week gave him kudos for not compromising, this week told him he needs to do something different! Chris was already offered lead singer for FUEL. (old news I know)http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/american_idol_5/2006_Mar_06_chris_fuel_offer Chris fans know that last night he chose a song that again keeps him true to who he is, did great and that's what we love about him. I think Simon's blatant contradiction was his way of saying "listen buddy if you win this competition don't expect to be recording any songs like that for us" (too hard for wimpy Simon) Can you see them trying to mold him into a pop star if he wins? I think they're actually afraid that they'll have a superstar rocker if he wins and they won't know what to do with him! All I know is I'll be purchasing his cd's no matter what even if they force him into singing that pop crap- just to support the artist.

Chris, I loveeeddddd your version of the Creed song. I thought you did Creed proad last night. I think that without you in this competition I wouldn't even watch. I could care less about the other people, but you I love to watch. You stay true to what you believe and do it great. Don't let them make you think any different. I am already lined up to get your CD so hurry up and win, so I can listen to you rock it out anytime I want to. God Bless!!

I think you saw Karma last night, Chris was dishonest about where "walk the line" came from last week and karma hit hard and awarded him with a terrible performance last night!!! It's funny when Chris tries to "make a song his own" that wasn't rearranged by another band, he hacks it up! Exposed!

Bigboy I can see your a follower not a leader but if you trmember what simon said last week that he praised Chris for sticking to what he sings best and not swaying away from his type of music then this week Simon said to chris you keep singing the same old stuff well a big DOH to both you and Simon. I have also heard a female call into a radio show saying that he keeps singing Rock songs and its getting old and he keeps playing other bands songs, well DOH to her also. First of all they all sing other singers songs and Chris sings what he sings best and I also can say He should win and if he does not win I'm sure he will have the best career better then anyone of them. P.S. This is from someone that listens to al types of Music

Simon is right - there was a line and chris crossed it. He can't come out singing the same shit every week and expect to win. period. The ONLY solid performance of the night was Taylor Hicks. The rest either screwed up on the song choice or didn't have a note in tune from beginning to end (Ace)

I was amazed with Chris' wide vocal range on Creed's "What if" tonight. I am a hardcore rock fan and I'm glad to see someone with that type of voice take a chance and go on this "pop" oriented show. Personally, I could care less about American Idol; Chris is the only one keeping into it. I was a little disappointed when the judges gave him negative comments tonight. They gave just about all of the contestants negative remarks. I think it was a set up, to lower their ego and to mix things up a bit. Chris deserves to win this competition, and I'll be one of the first to purchase his cd. I'll be sure to place it next to the best; Nirvana, Godsmack, and Staind. Stay true to who you are Chris, we'll be with you every step of the way! God Bless.

This song by creed was about the words. He was so hyped up to sing about the controversy. The creed version sang of about the words that hurt.If you listen to the lyrics of this song, you realize why he was so hyped up to sing a little sharp. And,with the controversy, they won't give him the props that were deserved. The song mentioned "live"and an eye for an eye.Great song choice for a mad idol who was accused of ripping off a song(which we saw him give props to)today.Way to let live know that they can't use chris to promote their next album, due next month!!!

I think Simon is a hypocrite. One minute he is like "I like how you stuck to your sound Chris. I like how you dont compromise with us and make it your own rock style." then the next he is, "You cant go on doing the same thing each week." COMEON! Make up your mind! I really thought every one had an off day today with the exception of Chris, Mandesa, and Paris.

Ok lets be real. Chris is a rockstar. He will try to do rock music any chance he can. I will say that his version of "What If" was very hard, but it was done well. I believe his fans will vote for him no matter what. They like him because he is who he is and doesn't let go of that. CREED was a band that sold over 30 million albums (only having 3 albums). To do one of their songs is great tribute to a great band. Chris is a fabulous singer and will not be in the bottom three and will, (if all goes well), win this competition. But I believe that as long as Chris stays true to the rock music he probably won't care if wins or not, because he stayed true to who he is. He has got great publiticity and America knows that he is great talent. P.S. - I'm waiting for the night when they show his family and friends to see Absent Element(his band) sitting in those seats!

Chris finally got the reviews from the judges that most experts have been saying about him from the very beginning. Chris can't keep coming out and singing his one style. Chris singing Creed was the worst move he could have done and he'll see the results in the polls. Final Thought - what Simon Cowell was thinking when Chris came out singing Creed "What the hell am I looking at?"

What ever man, Creed is by now way stretch of the imagination heavy metal. It wasnt his best, but it WAS better then "I walk the line" and he did a good job! He got me interested on the 1st guitar chord. And i really hope he doesnt take Simon seriously and conform, Chris you are GREAT! Heavy metal would be, Godsmack, Slipknot, Mega Death, ppl like that. And your right, i dont think Chris would sound good doing that, but mildly hard rock works for him! Dead or Alive is still my favorite though.

I'm 46 years old and the only reason I have watched A.I. is from the moment I heard chris sing a few seconds from Joe Cocker on a commercial. With the exception of the song "what if" chris is incredible. I know Chris will someday soon be in concert and I will be the first to buy tickets. I only pray that chris does not get into heavy metal. Rock and roll is awesomewith the amazing talent that you possess don't screw it up. Mine was a doctor in the Military for a long time and me and my children did not see him for months at a time, while he was at war, etc. Of course, I always worried about other women, etc. Stay strong and supportive and the both of you will go very far together! Love ya girl! I hope Chris wins, and if he doesn't, he will still have a brilliant singing career ahead of him. Stay true to who you are too as he is doing with his music. I don't want to count how many times Randy or Paula say "you made the song your own" to anyone. I have that much faith in Chris to already know that HE will make any song his own. I know the version of the 2001 Live's version of "Walk the Line" and yes, I do like Live and Chris says it is one of his favorite bands. Maybe he called them them, who knows and told them Thanks, or whatever. But, I still think Chris did a better job with the song, period. And it was great timing to do that song with the movie and Johnny Cash being so popular now after his death. That is what also brought great attention to that song to the older audience who are Johnny Cash fans and who probably are voting for him too. I can't wait to hear what you are going to do tonight, Chris! Hope it's another winner! And yes, "Dead or Alive" was phenominal, since Bon Jovi has always been one of my best groups ever! Whatever happens tonight, Taylor Hicks is going to own the stage and ultimately be the best. Chris is going to do alright as well because it is songs of the 21st century which he is obviously good at. Katherine will do good and so will Mandisa and Kellie. The rest will just be there for the ride cause they wont make it much farther. Yamin, Paris, Bucky, Lisa, and Ace will be out in the following weeks.

When I first saw him, i was like, okay he's cool. And when i saw him do that first performance, Dead or Alive i was like AMAZING> That was what really turned me on to him. He is a great artist, and the fact that he would take on his wife's 2 kids and raise them as his own is just wonderful too, he is only 26! Man, his kids will have lots of friends! "hey your dad is american idol!" They're probaly going to have to be home schooled. Get ready Chris, your going to be rich soon!

Bill I am so proud of your ability to cut and paste (rolls eyes) You know some of the other posters really have it right on! The judges state weekly to multiple artists that they "made the song their own". Over and over back to Kelly Clarkson we have heard that. I think many people just assumed that Walk the Line was redone by Chris because so many don't know about Live's version. Nothing was ever said on the show to indicate that Chris or Idol ever claimed it to be orginal in nature. When the judges say they "made it their own" that is not what they mean, not after saying it hundreds of time about so many other cover songs. ChrisFan

Like much of last night's American Idol audience, I was riveted by Chris Daughtry's performance of Johnny Cash's classic "I Walk the Line" giving it the thoroughly contemporary, sobering, dark take that it deserves. I even commented at home last night that it went well beyond his strong version of the Red Hot Chili Peppers interpretation of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground." It looked like I had finally seen the most stunning originality yet on the show this year. The judges echoed those sentiments, and much of today's press does as well. Unfortunately, it seems that Chris Daughtry's version of "I Walk the Line" was as much paint-by-numbers as Bucky Covington's version of Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy," which Simon called karaoke. The real originality for this version of "I Walk the Line" lies with the rock band Live. Live's version is indeed powerful, and Chris Daughtry did a good job of echoing it. Originality? We're still waiting for Chris Daughtry's originality...he knows himself as a performer, and so far it is as a faithful cover artist.

I agree that Chris is the best, I hope he wins, I'm simply wondering why there was no reference to the fact that it was Live's version of the song. On the Stevie Wonder theme night - it was emphasized that Chris was performing the Chilli Pepper's version of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground. So don't tell me to "get over it" I'm simply wondering why it was left out, and I'm sure if Chris love's the band he would want them to get credit for the song also.

I am also sick of hearing about the "walk the line" song. On one of his websites he has been quoted saying that "LIVE" is one of his favorite bands!!! So why would he say that if he was tring to hide it?? Like Mike said earlier the judges said "he made it his own" Chris did not say that, so people get over it.

That is a cool idea Mike! I'm in! I think it will be cool to see if a few of us do it and we can see how many different numbers we come up with kind of like that old game "Telephone" where you sit in a circle and wisper a phrase into each persons ear and see how much it changes by the time it goes all the way around. It will prove a point though won't it. I will go out on a limb and guess a number. Let's see 10 left and all are good, Randy says it twice many times, Paula once on average when she does. Say 6 will get that statement, so I will say we will hear the phrase "made it your own about 14-18 times on the next show.

Jordyn, May be he was the only one to get smoke and strobes because he requested it? Or that his performance was the only one where such arrangements mades sense. Seriously wouldn't have smoke and strobe looked really stupid during Tailor Hicks performance or when Mandisa sung. Both were awesome in my humble opinion BUT they would have looked really really dumb with smoke, blue lights and strobes. I think Chris got those effects due to the nature of his performance not due to special treatment. I am also sick of people saying Chris took credit for that version of Walk the Line being orginal simply because the Judges said he, "made it his own". That is when the bashers say he should have spoken up about Live. NOW JUST WAIT Randy and Paula tell about every second singer that they "made the song their own" no matter how much of a cover version it is. Watch tonight and please everyone count how many times the phrase or a paraphrase of "made it your own" is used. Lets have a little contest, everyone count and post the number you got here after tonight's show, Mike

Jules YOU ARE DEAD ON! The people that love the Pop Stuff and have a favorite are bashing Chris because they perfer that type of music and see Chris as the biggest threat to their favorite winning. Here is the deal though! 1. They are right he is the biggest threat. 2. Bashing him online is not going to work in the end it will probally back fire. The reality is simple some of the others are better vocalists if you judge pure vocals. Mandisa springs to mind but listen to her type of music it is simply not what the largest segment of people listen to. Like me Mandisa was born a few decades to late. Her music is more in line of when Gladis Knight was in vouge. Still I see her as a finalist and one of the biggest competitors to Chris in the end. SOOOOOO I tend to underate her performances. I know I am guilty of that. However, I don't go bashing her and creating rumors about her online. I guess some people are just imoral and underhanded. John

Yeah he was the only one to get smoke and strobe lights, probably due to the fact that he is the best of the bunch. I mean there is some talent but none that beats him. Its hard to pick a favorite for him, I really liked his Hemmorhage (I can't spell) and the Higher Ground performances, and I like walk the line as well even though it was a lil shaky there for a second. Hell! I liked em all.

Which is your favorite performance by Chris so far? I liked them all, but "Dead or Alive" is very much my favorite. Just because that is such a cool song anyway, and it is classic, and Chris kept the classic feel through it! Great! But what is with the guy echoing him in the back ground? He sucks! Anyone else notice that on the Stevie Wonder song Chris was the only one who got smoke and strobe lights? Hmm, guess he is just THAT good.

I think you may have a point there Jules...While i dont judge people on their music taste, i really CANNOT find what is so damn appealing about pop, hip hop, rap, country, funk, so on and so on music! Its rock all the way! I'm listening to "Hush" my Deep Purple now, great band. You know ppl like Eminem and Fall out boy, seriously, who is going to even remeber their names in 10 years to come? Yet, legends like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Guess Who, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Queen, etc, ppl remeber forever! I think Chris has a potential to become a classic...Who knows, maybe the next John Bonjovi, Rod Stewart, Joe Botamassa, Van Morrison, Jimmi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, so and so fourth, not as good as them of course, but give him some years, and ppl will remember!

Wanna know why I think some people are bent on hating Chris? Because his enormous talent threatens the mediocrity of their AI favorites. They know that as long as Chris is a contender in the competition that their favorite Idols are sure to lose to Chris. So instead of just accepting the fact the guy is gifted...they instead choose to bash him hoping to bring him down. Stand tall Chris and keep showing them what you're made of!

To Bigboy, I welcome a healthy legal debate with you on this site an not to violate it in any way. Can you do that? I respect your opinions, but do believe that bashing Chris on this website constantly is not right. You should create your own "hate Chris" website if you want and let us know where to dabate you, etc. Lisa Koler

To Webmaster of this site. I believe in "Freedom of Speech" in America. I realize that "Bigboy" has gotten out of line a few times. But, as long as no profanity or harsh accusations legally are trying to be pressed against Chris for doing "Live's" version of "Walk the Line", then let him have his say as we can do a healthy debate. But, I do commend you on removing anything he has said on this website that is illegal since it is a private site. Thanks for letting us Chris fans know what is going on on this site, that I thank you for. Lisa Koler

I was wondering were all the old comments were? Then I saw the archives. Anyway I think Chris will be awesome this week. I think he will keep singing more modern versions of songs when they are oldies or when they are outside of his niche. To those that think that is not right I have to ask are you CRAZY it is the smartest thing I have seen a contestent on Idol ever do! Misty

Thats absolute crap! Chris IS NOT going to leave his wife! He loves them dearly and his son and daughter, which are her's but he loves them just the same. They support eachother. If you guys want to see all of the songs that Chris has performed on the show go to http://www.rickey.org/blog/american_idol_5/chris_daughtry/ They even show a pic of him with hair, he is really hot there! I dont have a crush on him like millions of other girls, because whats the point? Same reason why i dont crush and fantasize about actors or other musical artists. Its not like you can pursue that fantasy. I just say if they are handsome or not. But I really love Chris' music! Its like classic rock with alternative pep to it. Im normally 90% Classic. But this is damn good stuff, what can I say? Music is my life! Thats why im getting my 7th guitar for my b-day. Chris would look really good with one.
